Hello
and welcome to volume Two edition Ten of the Has Bean newsletter. If
you missed any of the earlier ones they can be found at www.hasbean.co.uk/news.htm
1. New Additions.
We have more new beans from familiar origins but with unusual twists.
Our long search for a quality peaberry is over, and a new Kenyan that
is one of the finest we have found. We have also managed to source some
quality Cona Vacuum pots.
Kenya AA "Gulmarg Estate" (ref 103), Cost: £3.05 per 250g bag
It’s been a good year for Kenyan coffee at Has Bean. We have been
spoiled with some exceptional origin coffee. But the problem is they
never hang around for long. I spend more time looking for good Kenyan
than any other coffee. I think you can judge a roaster on his espresso
blend and his Kenyan and I'm pleased to be judged on this one. With
Bright fruity flavours that you would expect from Kenyan (berries and
blackcurrants) only when this cools slightly do you get the smooth
creaminess that envelopes your tongue. This Kenyan is good, so I best
start the search for next time as I don’t expect it to hang around long.

Kenya Peaberry "Eaagads Estate" (ref 104), Cost: £3.10 per 250g bag
I've been looking for a good peaberry ever since we started to sell
online. I've been sent many samples, all of them rejected for differing
reasons of quality and taste. So when another landed on the desk, I
didn’t hold out much hope for anything different. So it came as a
surprise to find this cup, I don’t think it’s an over reaction to say,
I am in love with this coffee! Zesty fruit running along the taste buds
turning as the cup cools into a rich red winey taste with hints of
blackcurrants. Old friends of Has Bean will know of my love for Kenya
coffee, well I think this sums up why. A tricky one to roast as it
turns very quickly from first crack to second, but when it’s right it’s
worth the effort.

Washed Ethiopian Wild Grown Bonga Forest Coffee (ref 105), Cost: £3.95 per 250g bag
As the name suggests this coffee is wild grown in the Bonga Rain Forest
in Ethiopia. Its hand picked cherries are harvested by independent
farmers, and sent for processing as a cooperative. The members of the
cooperative are committed to sustainability in price, environment and
social improvement. For there labours they bring one of the most
unusual coffees we have come across. Rich in body, with hints of spice.
It is similar in many ways to Ethiopian Harrar with its earthy mushroom
overtones, but with a surprising silky mouthfeel that lingers on and on
long after the cup.

Cona Vacuum Pots
These vac pots are from the world famous Cona brand of vacuum pots.
There main features are its all glass body with no metal parts to taint
the flavour. The vacuum principle ensures the coffee is automatically
infused at the correct temperature and does not boil. It also means the
coffee doesn't become over extracted unlike some other methods of
brewing. Cona is the choice of professionals for filter/French press
type of brewing.

Bolivian Organic (ref 704), Cost: £2.00 each
Has Bean has jumped on the organic bandwagon, but not after trying hard
to find just the right bean. This one being the unanimous winner. Lets
dispel some rumours though; most coffee is grown organically, it's just
that when you're growing beans thousands of feet above sea level, the
organic association don't want to come up to the plantation to certify
them. The only way they can be enticed is with money. This means most
of the organic beans available are of poorer quality and that's why we
have had such a problem getting a good quality organic bean. So now Has
Bean is proud to offer this fine organic coffee. A superior cup of
coffee which blends the characteristics- smooth and mellow flavours of
South America with some hints of flavour typically found in African and
Indonesian coffees. For the world coffee explorer, this is a new and
rewarding adventure. The special offer is instead of 2.85 per 250g pack
this is 2.00 BARGAIN!

2. Stock Running Low
We have had to wave goodbye to Yemen, Kenya Kiairugu and Peru Organic
decaffeinated. We have a fantastic replacement for the Yemen in the
Wild Bonga Ethiopian and a great replacement for the Kiairugu with the
Gulmarg. The Peru can be replaced with the Columbian decaffeinated we
have.
3. While we Browsed
Our Australian Skyberry was part of a full page article in Ian
Boughton's Coffee House magazine. It came out very favourably too, why
not take a look at www.coffee-house.org.uk/ or downloadable from toomuchcoffee.com/downloads/coffeehouseaugust2004.pdf the review is on page 14, (excuse the photo).
Thanks again for all your support, keep the emails coming in tosteve@hasbean.co.uk with your thoughts of the site and the coffees we have at the moment and coffees you would like to see.
